A man was injured Wednesday night when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed in the middle of U.S. 17 by a beachwear store and a mini golf course.
Bystanders carrying putters helped keep him calm and stable until medics arrived at U.S. 17 at 17th Avenue South.
Louis Sirvent, of Surfside Beach, saw the crash happen. He said the motorcyclist was changing lanes when the car in front of him changed lanes at the last moment.
“All I could see was smoke and the bike flipping,” he said. “It went 100 yards down the road. … He sat right up after it happened — and then he laid right back down.”
Horry County Fire Rescue transported the man to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.
Gerry: sounds exciting bike flips smoke no helmet
Gerry: man, just a couple more mph and you might have had a nice met front fatal
